Motivated by a deeply personal mission to redefine luxury skincare with natural, high-performance products, Tata has revolutionised the industry with her uncompromising vision. The brand operates from her zero-waste farm in Vermont, where every step of the process is controlled from farm to face, embodying a commitment to sustainability that respects both health and the planet.

Tata was first introduced to Marfa Stance and Founder Georgia through mutual friend and fellow Marfa Muse Georgina Cohen and the pair have been friends and supporters of each other’s brands ever since.

Tell us about your background and talk us through your career journey so far.

I grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia, surrounded by a culture that celebrated beauty and wellness as an essential part of life. My grandmother, in particular, inspired me. She’d host spa days at home, turning skincare into a joyful ritual rather than a chore. That upbringing sparked a lifelong passion for beauty and well-being. However, it wasn’t until my stepdad was diagnosed with cancer that I really began to question the ingredients in our everyday products. I was shocked to discover the number of synthetics, fillers, and questionable chemicals—even in so-called luxury skincare.

At the time, clean beauty wasn’t a category, and few people were talking about natural products, let alone products that were also truly effective. But I believed there was a way to combine high-performance results with pure, natural ingredients. I was determined to create a line of skincare that offered performance without compromise, so I immersed myself in skincare science, working with experts to develop formulas that would be effective without a single synthetic ingredient. We set up operations on our farm in Vermont, where we could control every step of the process and maintain the highest standards.

Today, Tata Harper Skincare is a fully vertically integrated company with a zero-waste facility, and I’m proud of the impact we’ve had in shaping the clean beauty movement. We’ve created something that goes beyond skincare. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited for what’s next.

What led you to launch Tata Harper Skincare and what is the philosophy behind it?

The inspiration to launch Tata Harper Skincare came from a deeply personal place. When my stepdad was diagnosed with cancer, I began to research everything that could contribute to our "toxic load"—all the chemicals and synthetic ingredients that accumulate in our bodies from daily products. I was shocked to find that even high-end skincare was filled with these unnecessary synthetics. I wanted to create products that were safe, pure, and luxurious—without any artificial ingredients. At that time, clean beauty wasn’t even a category, but I felt there was a better way to approach skincare.

Our philosophy is rooted in uncompromising purity and high-performance results. I believe beauty should be as good for you as it is indulgent and enjoyable. That’s why we control every part of our process, from ethically sourcing ingredients from all over the world to hand-batching each formula in our zero-waste facility. There are no shortcuts—each product is a complex blend of potent botanicals designed to deliver visible results without synthetics.

At its core, Tata Harper Skincare is about celebrating natural beauty in a way that respects both our health and the planet. By redefining luxury as something that’s pure, sustainable, and deeply effective, we empower people to care for themselves without compromise.

What advice do you have for fellow female entrepreneurs?

My biggest advice is to stay authentic and believe fiercely in your mission—especially if it’s something that challenges the norm. The journey can be tough, but if you’re clear on your purpose and stay true to your values, it will guide you through the challenging times. Find a way to create something truly unique, something that doesn’t just stand out but also improves people’s lives and, ideally, helps the planet in some way. Think about how your business can have a positive impact beyond just profit.

Build a supportive network around you—mentors, peers, and friends who understand your vision and can offer insight and encouragement. And finally, don’t be afraid to take calculated risks. Innovation takes courage, and when you’re passionate and true to what makes your brand special, that passion will inspire others to believe in it, too.

What are you most proud of?

I’m incredibly proud that we were pioneering in this space before the term "clean beauty" even existed. At the time, people thought it was impossible to create skincare that was 100% natural yet delivered luxury and visible results without any synthetics. But I was determined to prove them wrong, and we did. We’ve shown that you can have it all—luxury, effectiveness, and pure, natural ingredients without compromise.

Beyond that, I’m proud of our commitment to sustainability in every facet of our business. We’re vertically integrated and operate a zero-waste facility, allowing us to control every step of the process from farm to face. This lets us ensure not only the purity and efficacy of our products but also a minimal environmental footprint. We set out to redefine what people could expect from skincare, proving that high-performance beauty can be entirely natural, sustainable, and truly luxurious.

How did you discover Marfa Stance?

I first discovered Marfa Stance over tea at Claridge’s with my dearest friend and style guru, Georgina Cohen. She showed up in the most incredible parachute parka, and I couldn’t take my eyes off it! Georgina started telling me all about the brand and its founder, Georgia—now one of my dearest friends—and I was captivated. The philosophy behind Marfa Stance was so inspiring, and the quality and design were everything I love in a piece. I went straight to the website afterward and ordered two jackets. They’re still some of my absolute favorites, effortlessly stylish yet practical, which is exactly what I need in my busy life.

How do you style your Marfa Stance and what is your favourite combination?

As a mom of three, life in Connecticut is always on the go, and my schedule keeps me moving between family time, work, and traveling across the globe. I need pieces that adapt to my life’s rhythm—versatile, functional, and stylish. Marfa Stance is perfect for this. My favorite combination is layering the jacket with a cozy liner during cooler months, paired with jeans and my favorite sneakers or boots. It’s just as practical for weekend hockey games and family outings as it is for a quick turnaround trip to Paris or London for work.

What I love most about Marfa Stance is that it balances style with versatility, which fits seamlessly into my life. The ability to mix and match layers lets me adjust to any climate or occasion. It’s a travel essential because I can wear it on the plane, bundle up in a new city, or keep things simple back home. With Marfa Stance, I’m able to stay true to my style without ever sacrificing comfort or practicality, no matter where life takes me.
