What was your inspiration for the Peacoat?

The Wool Cropped Pea Coat was based on the Naval Peacoat,
designed as a more casual and functional wool garment, different from a
traditional officer's coat.

Georgia first conceived the idea for this design in San Francisco, where customers purchasing the Parachute Bomber expressed interest in wool garments but often found them either too formal or too warm for California’s climate.

The resulting garment is a lightweight, unstructured, and luxurious Wool Pea Coat that can be worn across seasons and effortlessly from day to night. The design offers a more modern, versatile silhouette, perfect for layering in winter or stripping down for spring, making it an ideal all-season piece.  Building with a collar provides an elevated yet easy to-wear look for added luxury and is a nod to the traditional Naval Peacoat's pop collars.

HOW IS THE PEACOAT MADE?

The Wool Pea Coat is crafted using splittable double-faced Italian wool, which is split and hand-stitched to create a seamless look that is unlined and as lightweight as possible. This process results in a soft, drapey, and relaxed fit.

The coat is framed with binding like all Marfa Stance styles, adding a robust utility feel not typically found in wool garments. Quilted nylon panels provide extra functionality, with the back panel offering comfort, protection and durability.

How long does it take to make?

The Wool Cropped Pea Coat takes around 18 hours to make due to the time-consuming technique of seamless hand stitching, binding, nylon application, and the reversible design, which requires precise finishing on both sides.

HOW IS THE DESIGN OF MARFA STANCE PEACOAT DIFFERENT?

REVERSIBILITY

A fully reversible double layer of lightweight, slouchy, super soft Italian wool, the asymmetric lapel worn open subtly showcases the contrasting reverse colour of the garment.

PRACTICALITY

The Wool Pea Coat design is the same unstructured, lightweight construction of our Wool Parka but features fewer buttons, no belt, and serves more as a layering piece.   The seamless stitch construction makes it a modern shell garment, enhancing its practicality across different climates, seasons and occasions.

The asymmetric lapel allows for multiple ways to style: buttoned up for a formal, wind resistant look or open for a more casual, relaxed appearance.

COMFORT + DURABILITY

Enhanced by its cropped, loose fit, this style provides a more casual and relaxed feel compareda traditional structured wool garment. The signature quilted back panel on both sides provides colour contrast, additional sporty texture, extra warmth, and added durability to protect the luxurious wool material when wearing a bag, backpack, or sitting against the back of a chair.

MODULARITY

The more minimal design of the Wool Pea Coat came with the intention to add accessories like liners, hoods, and collars to shift the style between utility, sporty, or formal.

It functions almost like a cardigan—light, warm, and perfect for layering. This versatility makes it suitable for wearing on a plane as a comfort layer, in colder climates like New York winters with additional layers, or worn alone in spring in cities like London and San Francisco.
