Every Marfa Stance garment is the result of successful relationships. Each portrait captures the spirit of pride that comes with experience, skill and the power of collaboration. Introducing the faces of the makers helps cement our promise to support and champion the craftspeople who create our collections.

Based in northern Italy, they are the people we know, trust and work alongside daily. It’s a close-knit network of allies – bursting with knowledge tracing back decades, and in some cases, generations. Across the region, factories have developed particular specialist areas; from leather and shearling to pattern-making, cutting and construction.

Family bonds tie together many of these small, independently-owned enterprises. A lasting legacy of accumulated proficiency, parents and owners make it their mission to pass on the ‘tricks of the trade’ to younger relations and dedicated employees. By safeguarding succession they are making sure the artisanal credentials and the culture that surrounds them continues to thrive.

These factories are communities, not just workplaces. They are described by some as ‘like family’ because they spend so much of their lives together. The strong bonds remain for many, long after retirement.

In the fashion industry, it’s rare to give total visibility to the people who orchestrate the manufacturing element of the product story. But for Marfa Stance, putting these faces front and centre is an important part of recognising where true value really lies. The photographs (and accompanying Marfa Faces film) are a reminder that there is a person behind every technique and an admirable human behind every decision. Together, they are keeping the esteemed ‘Made in Italy’ ecosystem alive.
