Introducing an exciting new collaboration with our friends at Gleneagles in Scotland.  Founder Georgia Dant was inspired by the natural heather and moss green hues of the surrounding landscape to create this exclusive version of the Marfa Stance iconic Parachute Parka and Aviator Collar pairing.  Scroll to read an extract from Georgia’s interview with Gleneagles Magazine and find out more about our trunk show from 2nd – 3rd February at Gaia, Gleneagles.

Interview with founder Georgia Dant

Tell us about the inspiration behind the exclusive Gleneagles x Marfa Stance Parachute Parka?

The inspiration behind the Gleneagles x Marfa Stance collaboration began with a colour palette - I started thinking about the natural environment of Gleneagles and the colours associated with the landscape. For example, the natural heather that grows and the tones of moss greens and dark olives that occur naturally in the surrounding areas. We took the hues of the landscape and translated it into our bestselling style, the Parachute Parka, paired with the Aviator Collar, which is perfect for walking and hiking around Gleneagles. We love the combination of textures and colours.

In Scotland, we have to embrace all seasons - sometimes in one day! What do you love about ‘coat weather’?

Marfa Stance was developed with this exact idea in mind - how to climate control a garment and adapt in multiple ways. I needed a coat that was multipurpose, that I could actually adapt and build up for cold weather or subtract down for warmer weather. For me a coat should have the ability
to do this. I especially love coat weather, so I started Marfa Stance’s
multi-purpose concept with outerwear, to explore the possibilities in my favourite category and layer and build up my piece to feel cosy.

We love how your coats are modular and buildable and can be personalised to individual taste - where did the idea come from?

I travel so much that I needed one garment that I could build, adapt and renew over a trip, rather than pack multiple garments each doing a specific job. So I decided to create a solution to this problem and develop
multifunctional pieces designed to combine style and function, that can
be customised and adapted across climates, seasons and occasions.

What other designs can we expect to see in this season’s collection?

At Marfa Stance we don’t offer seasonal collections, we offer a collection of continuity. We are very invested in hearing our customers feedback and so we develop new styles as and when we feel like something is missing in the collection or a customer gives us an idea of how to enhance our existing hero pieces that will benefit their lifestyle. For example, we are this year launching a fully reversible, buildable and waterproof raincoat, cape and hood which can be worn with our current collection. We feel that to have a part of the line that is waterproof, will work perfectly with our iconic quilts, offering our customers a waterproof layer to add to them.

What is your favourite Marfa Stance piece and colourway and why?

It’s hard for me to choose as I feel like each piece has a purpose and a reason for existing! But I am currently wearing the Parachute Parka with the Aviator Collar, combined with the new Convertible Rib Dress which is launching in October.

It’s fantastic to hear Marfa Stance use fabrics that are responsibly sourced with sustainability front of mind. How do you ensure this?

We have several responsible practices within our sourcing policy.  We either use stock fabrics, dead stock or surplus fabrics (sourced either from our mills and factories left over from past productions, or from actual dead stock archives in London) or recycled fabrics from Japan or Italy (where all of our garments are made). In addition, we have a zero waste policy and recycle our own surplus fabrics circularly. We introduce new patchworked styles into our collection at the end of each production run which up-cycle and reuse colours and fabrics left over from the seasons production. This is something that we are very focused on and will continue to add into our collection in special edition runs.

What are your top tips for dressing for the outdoors whilst still feeling stylish?

I think Marfa Stance offers this fusion, it’s a unique and stylish garment while being intentionally and purposefully designed with function, performance and longevity at its core. I think it’s about, layering, proportion and colour.

Who are your style icons and why?

I love understated, casual, confident and androgynous style. I love Lauren Hutton for this reason.

What’s on your packing list for a visit to Gleneagles?

A reversible Marfa Stance jacket, a hood, a collar and a liner to interchange and adapt throughout the trip. A chunky sweater, jeans and a great pair of walking boots to explore the amazing grounds during the day, and for dinner in the evening a camisole, high waisted pants and a Marfa Stance cape.  Most definitely some swimwear for the incredible spa, and room in my case to shop in the beautiful arcade!

Describe your perfect wintery day…

A hearty breakfast, a breezy and brisk hike, a pub lunch by a fire followed by a hot bath then a delicious dinner with great wine

What are your top three winter essentials in the dressing department?

Coat, sweater, boots.
