We are thrilled to introduce Marfa Muse dream duo, celebrated British artists Annie Morris and Idris Khan.

We shot the talented couple in their shared north London studio, in celebration of their upcoming museum show openings (Annie at the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai and Idris at The Milwaukee Museum).

ANNIE MORRIS

Annie Morris studied under Giuseppe Penone at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris before completing her education at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. 2021 marked her debut museum exhibition, with a solo presentation of sculptures and tapestries at Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s Weston Gallery, later commissioned by the Hepworth Wakefield to create a permanent installation for the West Yorkshire History Centre. Additional work resides in such collections as the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; the Amore Pacific Museum of Art, Seoul; the Hôtel de Crillon, Paris; as well as a site-specific stained-glass commission which was part of the Painter’s Room launch at Claridge’s Hotel, London and an impressive 6m Bronze Sculpture at the wonderful Chateau La Coste in Provence that was unveiled to coincide with her inaugural exhibition of their Oscar Niemeyer Space.

This week sees the launch of Annie’s first museum survey show in China at the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai. Hope From a Thin Line, is a solo exhibition which features a site-specific, gallery-spanning mural on which drawings and tapestries are installed, as well as a remarkable installation from Morris’s iconic Stacks series, which is her tallest to date at five and a half metres in a signature palette of lavender, oxblood red, ochre, viridian.

IDRIS KHAN

Multidisciplinary artist Idris Khan OBE studied at Royal College of Art. His work in photography, video, and sculpture has been widely exhibited internationally and can be found in the public collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Centre Pompidou, Paris, among others. Major commissions have included The New York Times Magazine and the British Museum in London. 2017 was a big year for the talented artist, being awarded the American Architecture Prize for his design of Abu Dhabi’s Wahat Al Karama memorial, as well as his appointment as Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to art.

This April marks his first museum exhibition in the USA, titled Idris Khan: Repeat After Me at The Milwaukee Art Museum from April 5 – August 11, 2024. The exhibition charts the evolution of his practice, from early black-and-white photographic works that captures the flow of time in still images, to a new series of abstract watercolour compositions that encapsulate the essence of iconic paintings of the Renaissance–⁠18th century through their use of colour.
