Meet The Marfa Makers

MARFA MAKER

Introducing our latest Marfa Maker, Joanie Schwarz, and the maker behind our new limited-edition Denim Embroidered Latch Collar.

Joanie Schwarz is the creative force behind Atelier Telluride. For over 25 years, she has been known in the publishing world for her portraiture and fine art, with work gracing the covers of Time, U.S. News & World Report, The New York Times Magazine, and The Los Angeles Times.

Her artistic eye—honed through years of capturing human expression and storytelling—naturally evolved into textile work that blends art, craftsmanship, and sustainability. In the studio, Joanie treats each garment as a canvas, layering hand-stitching, paint, and reclaimed textiles to create pieces that feel alive with history and individuality.

Denim Embroidered Latch Collar

EMBROIDERED INDIGO

Designed by Joanie Schwarz for Marfa Stance, this limited-edition embroidered denim collar is one of just 20 pieces made. Crafted from renowned Kuroki denim, each collar brings together utility, craft and a distinctly individual point of view. A standout layer designed to add structure and character to whatever you’re wearing, it fastens in a snap and can be worn up or down, depending on the mood and the weather.

The collar’s latch tab can be secured to provide added wind resistance, making it as functional as it is expressive. Made slowly and designed to be worn many ways, it’s a versatile piece intended to move between looks, seasons and occasions. A small-edition collaboration between Marfa Stance and Joanie Schwarz, each collar is made to be lived in, styled freely and worn again and again.
